Content Knowledge and Professional Growth

The most important standard for technology coaches, in my opinion, is Content Knowledge and Professional Growth. This standard focuses on the importance of coaches to be able to professional knowledge and skills, but also understand content, pedagogical, and technological areas. Additionally, coaches need to be able to understand adult learning and leadership and continualy deepen their own learning. Almost all of the courses and projects I completed for this cohort included opportunities to demonstrate skills aligned with this standard.

I feel that my paper on measuring learning and professional competencies of family support professionals met this standard due to the heavy focus on evaluating and reflecting on current research. In addition to researching this topic, I also provided suggestions for integrating technology that would contribute to the effectiveness of professional development systems for family support professionals. Both of these projects ultimately deepened my understanding of the content and pedagogical knowledge necessary for successful technology integration.

I feel that this project met this standard by facilitating my individual learning on a deeper level. One thing that was unique about this project was that I was able to create a project in a video editor that I had not used before and had to teach myself how to learn. Rather than spending time in class learning about video editing, we really spent time focusing on how content could be best shared, so the logistical details of editing a video were learned on my own. I feel confident in my learning of these tools and feel like I truly integrated video editing knowledge into my skill repertoire.

This course and final project contributed to my continual learning and pedagogical knowledge in technology integration. I was able to explore current and emerging technologies that would be most effective in implementing standards for students and modeling standards for teachers. This standard was met by collaborating on a team project that facilitated experiences around project management, adult learning and leadership. These experiences have contributed to my overall professional practice abilities and goals. This project and the reflection of this project allowed me with the opportunity to evaluate my skills and contribute to greater understanding for future facilitation of technology-enhanced learning experiences.

I feel that this project met this standard by facilitating my individual learning on a deeper level. Creating a plan to flip PD for teachers gave me great insight on how to best flip PD for family support professionals, and utilize this approach within a real world context. This project also showed a great deal of leadership and project management, while focusing on adult learning practices and modeling techniques.

This standard was met by participating in a course that deepened my understanding of content and pedagogical knowledge in technology integration. This course contributed to an increase in my ability to organize and plan a product from needs assessment to implementation to assessment of effectiveness. Additionally, this standard was met by allowing me to reflect on a professional practice that needed to be redesigned, and by allowing me to practice a redesign within a safe space. This strengthened my ability to implement this project in real life and use technology more effectively with my home visitors.

This standard was met by utilizing technology and pedagogical methods of assessment to ensure learner understanding within the gaming project. This artifact demonstrates my ability to coach family support professionals by deepening professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions in adult learning to improve professional practice. Additionally, this project is an example of my ability to facilitate technology enhanced learning experiences and was put into real practice following completion of the course.
