Digital Citizenship

The indicators for Digital Citizenship reflect the need for technology coaches to model and promote digital citizenship practices. In my professional practice, this standard addresses the need for professionals to understand their own digital footprint, as well as understanding the ethical and legal considerations of sharing information online. Several of the projects I completed for this cohort included opportunities to demonstrate skills aligned with this standard.

INSTTECH 5139 Planning and Producing Instructional Media

Artifact: Video Project

How This Meets the Standard:

C.5.a. Model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers

C.5.b. Model and facilitate safe, healthy, legal, and ethical uses of digital information and technologies

C.5.c.Model and promote diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness by using digital age communication and collaboration tools to interact locally and globally with students, peers, parents, and the larger community

This standard was met by demonstrating a safe, healthy use of digital information and technology. This project encourages digital citizenship practices and identifies ways in which students can share multimedia projects safely. For example, this video is posted on a private YouTube channel, which models best practice digital citizenship strategies. Additionally, students are encouraged to work together and utilize community resources on their final project of creating their own video, and additional strategies are provided to help all students succeed.
