Visionary Leadership

Visionary leadership decribes the capability of an educator to develop and implement comprehensive technology integration into an educational setting. To me, this standard is central to the role of an instructional coach as it provides structure and guidance on how to best create a common vision. In my professional role, I vew this standard as one that can help me advocate for policies and structures that best serve my learners and create a culture of professional development that supports technology integration. Several of the projects I completed for this cohort included opportunities to demonstrate skills aligned with this standard.

INSTTECH 5131 Exploring Issues and Trends in Instructional Technology

Artifact: Using Twitter to Personalize Your Professional Learning (Website); Measuring Learning and Professional Competencies for Family Support Professionals (Argumentative Paper)

How This Meets the Standard:

C.1.b. Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels

C.1.c. Advocate for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school and district technology plans and guidelines

C.1.d. Implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and manage the change process in schools and classrooms

I feel that the small group project met this goal by creating an interesting product that would allow teachers to independently find professional development that is meaningful and relevant to them. This product sets the stage for technology-infused strategic plans to be introduced within the classroom or professional setting. This project had several real world examples of how to use Twitter to enhance PD and create collaborative learning environments. Additionally, this project is an example of a technology innovation that can be replicated within a school district or professional setting to create a change in how PD is accessed and utilized.

INSTTECH 6232 Selecting and Integrating Instructional Technologies

Artifact: The Lancer Look

How This Meets the Standard:

C.1.a. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students.

C.1.b. Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels.

C.1.c. Advocate for policies, procedures, programs, and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school and district technology plans and guidelines.

This project is an overview of an implementation plan to incorporate a comprehensive approach to technology and digital age learning strategies. This project meets this standard due to it’s collaborative nature both in development and implementation. The goal for implementation of this project is to scaffold learning in introductory courses and provide hands-on opportunities for Junior and Senior students. This approach is a strategic plan for learning within the district. The overall project is rich with real-world experiences that are supported by technology to enhance learning. This standard was met through the creation of a creative and innovative grant application to support the implementation of this project. This project was created for a real district and represents the vision of the business department within that district.

INSTTECH 6237 Leading Change through Instructional Technology

Artifact: Plan on a Page

How This Meets the Standard:

C.1.a. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students

This project helped me meet all of the standards for Visionary Leadership because it allowed me to take a leadership role as a fictional Instructional Coach. This prepared me to facilitate conversations and advocate for technology-infused change that would support an issue teachers struggle with. This course allowed me to develop and plan a change, but also identify ways in which I could work through that change and support implementation of a shared vision.

INSTTECH 6240 Understanding Instructional Design

Artifact: Understanding by Design Framework

How This Meets the Standard:

C.1.a. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students.

C.1.b. Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels

These indicator were demonstrated by the creation of an instructional design plan which includes implementation, assessment, and technology supports. This project supports the development of a technology-infused plan to integrate flipped instruction into an exisiting PD unit.

INSTTECH 5139 Planning and Producing Instructional Media

Artifact: Video Project

How This Meets the Standard:

C.1.a. Contribute to the development, communication, and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive use of technology to support a digital-age education for all students

C.1.b. Contribute to the planning, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of technology-infused strategic plans at the district and school levels

I feel that this video project met these standards by creating an interesting product that would allow a real high school teacher to integrate technology into her classroom. The video was created after a conversation with the teacher that identified her need to deliver information to her students in a more interesting and relevant way. The goal of the video was to create a sample project that her students could replicate in order to meet the objectives of her classroom. This project is one of my better examples of facilitating technology-infused strategies to support digital-age students.
